" ... The Buffer Zone is an hour-long CD derived from an audiovisual work commissioned last year for a Dutch festival. The performance space was split by two video screens with a pianist in one half and a cellist in the other, each one playing a virtual duet with an imagined instrument on the opposite side. Between them a singer/actor took the role of a United Nations soldier patrolling the buffer zone of divided Cyprus. Interviews with soldiers fed a narration that disclosed the physical and psychological dislocation of being in no man's land.
Tido Visser is the main speaker, with a chorus of four voices adding further complexity to the text. Marc Reichow plays piano, Nikos Veliotis cello and Kyriakides the composer oversees input of abstract electronics and field recordings from the island. ... "
